Combined Wyngate Elementary and MCPS Calendar and Wyngate PTA (Google Calendar)

Wyngate’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) sponsors a host of events to support the school, our students and community. PTA meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every other month. Dates listed below are subject to change and some events require registration.

AUGUST

28—Welcome Back Teachers
PTA provides lunch for teachers and staff

29—Sneak a Peek Day
Students and parents visit classrooms 

SEPTEMBER

2 – Labor Day Holiday – Schools and Offices Closed

3 – First Day of School

6 – PTA Back to School Picnic (5:30-7:30)
PTA sponsors an informal evening for families

11 – Back to School Night (7:00)
PTA provides refreshments at event where parents meet teachers and learn about the curriculum

23—Room Parent Orientation
PTA trains class volunteer leaders

24 – Chipotle Dining Out Fundraiser 
Dine out with friends and the restaurant will donate a portion of the proceeds to the PTA

26 – Individual Student Portraits*
Professional photographs are available for purchase

30 – No School

OCTOBER

2 — International Walk to School Day
Celebrate benefits of walking by strolling to school

3 – PTA New Parent Welcome 
Families new to Wyngate are invited to talk with the principal and meet other families  at a 8:00 am coffee or 6:30 pm reception (prior to PTA meeting )

3 – PTA Meeting (7:00 pm in Media Center)
Hear an informative speaker and get updates from the principal and PTA leaders; Babysitting provided

4 – Early Release Day

9—No School

14— Open House/Columbus Day*
Parents may observe their child’s classroom in action

18— Fun Run*
Students run a short course around the school

21-24—WE Cares Halloween costume drive to benefit National Center for Children and Families

25 – Bus Driver Appreciation Day

31—Halloween Parade and Party*
Students show off their costumes during a neighborhood walk and have a class party

NOVEMBER

PTA-sponsored cultural arts program

5 & 20 – Support Comfort Cases by preparing backpacks for distribution to children in foster care 

6—WE Cares Sandwich Making to Benefit Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless

8—Early Release Day

11-12—Parent/Teacher Conferences (early release at 12:55)
Parents and teacher discuss student’s progress; PTA provides lunch for the staff

11 – 22 – SCOUT Holiday Fundraiser

Purchase colorful bags or home storage solutions from this DC-based company and they will donate a portion of the proceeds to the PTA.

14—Student Portraits (rain date)

23—Ice Skating Night at Cabin John Ice Rink
PTA sponsors this fun community-building event

27—Early Release Day

28-29—No School (Thanksgiving)

DECEMBER

2-6— PTA Scholastic Book Fair
Shop during the day or on “Late Nights”; Proceeds enable the school to order books and other materials for the media center

2-6—WE Cares Warm Winter Clothing Drive
Drop off outerwear for donation to the National Center for Children and Families 

3 – One Author, One School: Suzanne Selfors*
Co-sponsored by PTA and Wyngate Foundation

3—PTA Meeting, 7:00 pm
Hear a presentation on anxiety in children by Dr. Bonnie Zucker and get updates from the principal and PTA leaders; Babysitting provided.  Please RSVP here so that we can have the appropriate number of chairs and babysitters.

11—Bingo Night
Evening PTA fundraiser filled with fun and prizes

12 – Crossing Guard Appreciation Day

14—Valentine’s Day Parties and WE Cares card making for nursing home residents*
Room parents plan a celebration for the class and students make cards for senior citizens

17—No School (Presidents’ Day)

20—Science Fair
Kids exhibit science projects and interact with scientists at this non-competitive evening PTA event

MARCH

19—Multicultural Night
Tour the world with student-sponsored tables

25 – California Tortilla Dining Out Fundraiser
Dine out with friends or family and the restaurant will donate a portion of the proceeds to the PTA.

PTA parent volunteers organize a celebratory meal and small gifts to thank teachers and staff
