WE Cares

WE Cares:  Fall Events

WE Cares (Wyngate Elementary Cares) provides PTA-sponsored opportunities for Wyngate students and their families to participate in service activities that benefit the larger community. We have a number of exciting and rewarding activities planned for the 2019 – 20 school year, including these upcoming events:

FUN RUN SPORTS GEAR COLLECTION

*October 18*

Donate your surplus sports gear! On the day of the PTA’s Fun Run, WE Cares will co-sponsor a sports gear drive benefiting Leveling the Playing Field, a local organization that provides children in underprivileged communities with the athletic equipment they need to have the opportunity to experience the joy and benefits of playing sports. Please consider donating your excess, gently-used sporting equipment and athletic shoes (but not athletic clothing) of all sizes. A collection box will be located just outside Wyngate’s main entrance throughout the day on October 18.

COMFORT CASES EVENTS

*Nov. 5 and 20*

Help children in foster care on their journey to find their forever home by providing a proper travel bag filled with comfort and essential items. Volunteer to fill bags at one or both of these Wyngate-sponsored events. SignUp Genius links to come!

HALLOWEEN COSTUME DRIVE

*October 21 – 24*

What can you do with all those past Halloween costumes? If you have costumes from years past that your family no longer uses, then you can help make it a happier Halloween for disadvantaged children and families here in Bethesda. We will be collecting gently-used costumes of all sizes to benefit the underprivileged, abused, neglected and/or abandoned children and their families assisted by the National Center for Children and Families. A collection box will be in the school lobby from October 21 – 24. We ask that you please securely bag your donations as costumes may have multiple and/or delicate parts.

SANDWICH MAKING EVENT

*November 6*

Please join us for this popular hands-on, family-based volunteer opportunity, which will take place at Wyngate immediately before the start of the school day. You and your children will make sandwiches and assemble brown bag meals for distribution by the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless, which operates soup kitchens & emergency shelters and strives to end homelessness in the County.  An electronic sign up form will be circulated on Wyngate’s list serve; if you would like to participate but need help signing up, please contact us.

WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE

*December 2 – 6*

As you prepare for the onset of cooler weather and find that your children have outgrown their fall/winter clothing, please consider contributing to WE Cares’ winter clothing drive to benefit the National Center for Children and Families. We will be collecting new and gently-used warm clothing and outerwear of all types (boots, snowsuits, hats, gloves, scarves) and sizes (infant to adult). A collection box will be in the school lobby from December 2 – 6.

Thank you for helping to make this another great year for WE Cares & the extraordinary organizations we support!
